Health Connection Expands Preventive Health Services in Southwest Indiana: Now Offering HIV PrEP and DoxyPEP

Health Connection, a program of Pace Community Action Agency, Inc., is adding two powerful preventive treatments, HIV PrEP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis) and DoxyPEP (Doxycycline Post Exposure Prophylaxis), as part of its comprehensive, patient centered sexual and reproductive health services. These services are now available at all Health Connection clinics serving Daviess, Knox, Lawrence, Sullivan, and Vigo counties.

What Are These New Services

HIV PrEP: A safe, daily medication regimen that greatly reduces the risk of HIV infection.

DoxyPEP: A course of doxycycline taken after sex to prevent certain bacterial STIs, offering a new layer of protection for sexually active individuals.

Health Connection has long offered confidential, sliding fee scale services in sexual and reproductive health including STI testing and prevention, contraception, wellness and reproductive screenings, and more, without regard to age, income, or background. The introduction of HIV PrEP and DoxyPEP further strengthens its capacity to meet the evolving needs of its community.

Health Connection emphasizes compassionate, stigma free care. Patients can receive services confidentially on a sliding fee scale, and some qualifying individuals may not have a charge.  Prospective patients are encouraged to call their nearest clinic to request a “good faith estimate” and to discuss cost coverage, ensuring transparency and affordability.

To schedule an appointment to talk to a healthcare provider or for testing, contact the Health Connection clinic closest to you, Bedford (812) 675-0247, Sullivan (812) 638-2998, Vincennes (812) 882-6069, Washington (812) 254-6936 and Terre Haute (812) 234-0707. Health Connection Launches Pad and Tampon Drive to Combat Menstrual Poverty and Support Student Wellness

Health Connection of Pace Community Action Agency, Inc. is proud to announce the 2025 Pad and Tampon Drive, a powerful community initiative running throughout August and September to address menstrual poverty and promote health equity. This year’s campaign focuses on ensuring that every student in our local schools has the supplies they need to manage their menstrual health with dignity, confidence, and comfort.

Menstrual poverty continues to impact education, wellness, and opportunity. Across the United States, nearly 1 in 5 girls have missed school because they lacked access to menstrual products, a barrier that should never stand between a student and their education. When students have the resources they need, they can focus on learning, participating, and thriving without interruption.

"Menstrual health is a human right, not a privilege," said Michelle Pitcher, Clinical Services Director. "By working together as a community, we can eliminate one of the most preventable causes of missed school days and help students feel supported."

We invite individuals, businesses, and community groups to take part in this movement. Your contribution will be distributed to schools that serve vulnerable populations.

Ways to Donate

1. Drop-Off Donations: Bring unopened packages of sanitary pads, tampons, panty liners, menstrual cups, or other menstrual hygiene products to your nearest Health Connection clinic. Find locations: https://www.pacecaa.org/health-connection

2. Arrange a Pick-Up: Contact your local clinic to schedule a product pick-up by our team.

3. Amazon Wish Lists: Ship donations directly to the county you wish to support:

o Knox County: https://a.co/bb28zUT

o Lawrence County: https://a.co/9pNkChQ

o Vigo County: https://a.co/3vaNul3

o Daviess County: https://a.co/5VeJ4qJ

o Sullivan County: https://a.co/ecVfWZn

Access to menstrual hygiene products directly affects school attendance, mental health, and self-esteem. By participating in the Pad and Tampon Drive, you’re helping break down barriers, fight stigma, and ensure that no student’s education is disrupted because of a natural biological process.

Together, we can close the gap in menstrual health access, one donation at a time.

Pace Community Action Agency, Inc. Holds Board of Director’s Meeting

Pace Community Action Agency’s Board of Directors meeting was held via Zoom at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17th with President, Greg Jones, presiding.

The 2024 Financial Audit Report was presented to the finance committee and to the full board by Comer, Nowling & Associates from Indianapolis.  Ms. Cami Demaree, auditor from Comer, Nowling, reported on the agency’s audit in detail explaining that there were no financial statement findings, no federal award findings or questioned costs for Pace or their subsidiaries.   Cami Demaree stated that Pace continues to hold a high standard of excellence, and because of no findings in past years, Pace continues to qualify as a low-risk auditee.

In addition, reports were presented by Tai Blythe, CEO; Liann Smith, CFO; Carla Gambill, VP of Finance and Jeremy Wimmenauer, VP of Planning & Development. The Board also approved funding requests.

Pace Community Action Agency to Discontinue Health Insurance Navigator Services

Pace Community Action Agency shares with care and consideration that it will no longer offer Health Insurance Navigator services effective immediately. Over the past several years, securing consistent funding for the Navigator program has become increasingly difficult. In addition, similar services are now being offered by other community-based organizations, making it less sustainable for Pace to continue this program internally.

“Pace has proudly supported thousands of individuals and families in navigating their health insurance options through our Navigator program,” said Tai Blythe, CEO. “While this strategic decision was not made lightly, the availability of Health Insurance Navigators through other trusted local providers, combined with ongoing funding challenges, led us to this shift. It allows us to focus our efforts where the community will see the greatest impact and our services remain essential.”

Over recent years, the health insurance landscape has evolved. Community members who need assistance enrolling in health insurance or understanding their coverage options can connect with the following local resources:

  • ASPIN Health Navigator

  • Children and Family Services Corp.

  • Daviess Community Hospital

  • Good Samaritan Hospital

  • Greene County General Hospital

  • Indiana Department of Insurance

  • Indiana Rural Health Association

  • Sullivan County Community Hospital

Though this program is ending, Pace remains deeply committed to supporting the health and well-being of our community. We continue to offer reproductive healthcare services on a sliding fee scale, and no one is ever turned away for inability to pay. Our team is here to support individuals and families with high-quality, confidential care.

Pace Community Action Agency Celebrates Community Action Month

This May, as part of National Community Action Month, Pace Community Action Agency proudly celebrates 60 years of serving families across Southwestern Indiana. As a member of the nationwide Community Action Network, Pace has been at the forefront of efforts to help individuals and families achieve lasting economic independence.

Founded in 1965, Pace Community Action Agency is part of a powerful network of nearly 1,000 agencies across the United States that work daily to create economic opportunities, strengthen communities, and help families find sustainable paths to self-sufficiency.

Each year during Community Action Month, we reflect on the impact Pace and our network have had on families and the community. Tai Blythe, CEO of Pace, said, “Last year alone, 6,436 individuals received vital services like early childhood education, energy assistance, and access to healthcare. We employee over 115 individuals and administer a $10,000,000 budget; our economic impact to our local communities is impressive.”

Community Action Agencies like Pace are locally governed with boards of directors made up of local elected officials, public and private sector leaders, and engaged community members. This community-based model ensures programs are responsive to local needs and drive meaningful change at the ground level.

Community Action Month provides an opportunity to highlight the critical work of agencies like Pace and to honor the local partnerships that fuel these efforts. To learn more about Pace Community Action Agency’s services and how to get involved, please visit www.pacecaa.org.
