Boys & Beyond Summer Camp Enrollment

Pace Community Action Agency, Inc. is excited to announce changes to its Boys & Beyond Program.  New this year, the program will be offered as a one-week summer camp operating the week of June 10th – 14th.  Applications are currently being accepted for boys in Daviess, Greene, Knox and Sullivan Counties who are currently in the 4th and 5th grades.

In its sixth year, Boys & Beyond is an innovative interactive program for boys.  Dr. Bertha Proctor, CEO of Pace states, “we found that many programs are geared toward females and family functioning, and too often, males have not been taught about relationships, communication, and responsibilities.”  Boys & Beyond provides focused team building and life-skills training, with a mixture of experiential learning opportunities, communication, relationship skills, and leadership development.  Topics such as financial literacy, technology, health and wellness, how to tie a tie, change a tire, and social skills are taught during the duration of the program with incentives being provided to compliment the lessons.  Male community members volunteer their time participating with the boys.

Dr. Proctor states, “this year we decided to try something new by offering it as a week-long summer camp, which will end with a field trip to a children’s museum.”  The camp will be offered at our main offices, located at 525 N. 4th Street in Vincennes.  The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at noon with lunch included.

Dr. Proctor also stated, “the success of this program is dependent upon participation of community male volunteers.  We encourage any males from the community to contact us if they are interested in volunteering a couple of hours to assist with the program.  This program has made an impact on the participants, the families, the facilitators and on Pace staff.”  Greg Parsley, Superintendent of the Vincennes Community School Corporation has given his support to the program, stating that it has the potential to be “life changing” for the boys involved.

Families interested in enrolling their son in the program can enroll by downloading an application from the Pace website at www.pacecaa.org or by contacting Susan Laughlin at (812) 882-7927, extension 1217 or slaughlin@pacecaa.org.
