Pace Community Action Agency Announces New JUMP! Program

Pace Community Action Agency Announces New JUMP! Program

Pace Community Action Agency, Inc. is excited to announce that applications are currently being accepted for a new innovative program.  JUMP! (Journey Upward ~ Making Progress) was designed to encourage life skills learning for low-income individuals.   Funding for this program was received through an innovative grant made available by Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

Dr. Bertha Proctor, CEO states, “this new opportunity will benefit both program participants and local businesses.”  The highly incentivized program will target individuals ages 25 – 40 that are unemployed or underemployed (low wages or part-time employees) who are motivated to improve their situation.  Those selected for the program will complete six (6) two-hour experiential learning sessions focused on life and job skills.  Those who successfully complete the six sessions will then gain six-week paid job placements with a community partner.  The JUMP! Program will pay the participants’ wages during their placement.  Dr. Proctor states “we view this as an excellent opportunity for local employers who may need additional help during the upcoming holiday season but may not have the funds available to hire employees.   Upon completion of the program, participants will have an updated resume with current work experience along with letters of reference.

The program is open to individuals within Pace’s four-county service area of Daviess, Greene, Knox and Sullivan Counties.   Learning sessions will be provided in Vincennes.  To provide solutions to barriers individuals may face, which would keep them from participating in the program, Pace will provide meals and childcare during the sessions. In addition, mileage reimbursement will be provided for those that live outside of the Vincennes area.

Those interested in applying for the program can find more information on Pace’s website – www.pacecaa.org.   Pace is also seeking local businesses who may be interested in providing employment opportunities to JUMP! participants.  Contact Susan Laughlin, Administrative Services Manager at (812) 882-7927, extension 1217.
