Pace Community Action Agency Holds Annual Stakeholders' Event

Vincennes, (IN) – The Board of Directors annual meeting of stakeholders was held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20 at Highland Woods Community Center in Vincennes.  Marc McNeece was the Master of Ceremonies and Greg Jones, President of the Pace Board of Directors presided over the business meeting.  Community members were in attendance along with representatives from Pace Ventures Holding Corporation, Pace Development Corporation, the Head Start/Early Head Start Policy Council and Pace staff.

The Pace Board approved, among other things, their IRS Form 990, proposed bylaw amendments and staff holidays for 2019.  The theme for the evening was “Better Together” spotlighting the community partnerships that are vital to the success of Pace.  Various partners from Pace’s four-county service area were highlighted during the event.  Dr. Bertha Proctor, CEO states “Although we highlighted just a few of the partners, we truly are better because of our continued collaborations with various entities throughout Daviess, Greene, Knox and Sullivan Counties.”

Taylor Miller of Vincennes received the annual “Self-Reliance Award” which is provided every year to someone that has made considerable efforts toward being self-sufficient. Criteria for selecting a candidate for the award include: obtaining and/or maintaining gainful employment (preferably with benefits); independently maintaining a household; educational achievement; or acquisition of assets.

Taylor, a former Head Start student, enrolled her daughter in Pace’s Early Head Start program so that she could attend college at Vincennes University.   Taylor graduated this spring with an LPN and general studies degree and is currently employed at GentleCare Rehabilitation nursing facility.  Taylor stated, “if it wasn’t for the Early Head Start program and other services provided by Pace, I wouldn’t be where I am today.” 

 Tim Gard, an internationally renowned Hall of Fame speaker form Portland, Oregon was the keynote speaker for the evening.  Tim’s down-to-earth real-life humor left a lasting impression on those in attendance.    Proctor states “we were happy to get Mr. Gard for our event.  The audience enjoyed his humor and left the venue full of smiles.” 

 The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on Thursday, November 15th at 7:00 pm.
