Pace Receives Additional $1,000,000 in Funding For Head Start & Early Head Start
Pace received an additional $1 million in federal grants from the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) to expand high quality early learning programs to infants and toddlers through Early Head Start Expansion and to provide longer service hours for Head Start children ages 3-5. Funding will allow Pace to hire new staff and to identify and set up new classrooms.
The Early Head Start grant will allow Pace to provide full year center-based services to 32 infants and toddlers in Knox and Daviess Counties. Comprehensive services will not only help children to meet developmental milestones and identify possible delays but will also assist families with goal setting and employment.
“We are elated that we were chosen as recipients of this competitive grant to provide services to children ages 0-3 and their families,” said Dr. Bertha Proctor, Pace CEO and Head Start Director. “Early learning is so important for children. Our program helps equip them and their families for future success.”
In addition to Early Head Start Expansion, Pace received funds to expand the classroom time for children ages 3-5. “With the additional funding we will provide services 5 days a week for 6 hours a day. This doubles the classroom learning time for children in our centers which will result in improved children outcomes,” said Associate Director, Tai Blythe.
Pace’s Head Start and Early Head Start Programs currently serve over 450 children at 9 centers and through a home-based option throughout Daviess, Knox, Greene and Sullivan Counties. Comprehensive services provided include: health, developmental, and behavioral screenings; safety and nutrition services; increased professional development opportunities for teachers; and increased parent engagement opportunities.
