A New Season of Pace's Boys & Beyond Program
Pace Community Action Agency’s Boys & Beyond Program is filled with fun and innovative hands-on sessions that teach 4th and 5th grade boys life skills. Sessions are held at Pace’s main location, 525 N. 4th Street in Vincennes every Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm. The 5th season of the program will begin on February 6 through March 27, 2018. Boys are eligible for enrollment through recommendation from all Knox County schools. As well, parents can get applications for the program by contacting school officials.
The Boys & Beyond participants learn skills such as how to tie a tie and change a tire, as well as presentation and money management skills from local men who volunteer their time to the program. Dr. Bertha Proctor, CEO of Pace stated, “The success of this program is dependent upon the participation of our male volunteers and the time that they spend with the boys.” Any guys interested in volunteering with the Boys & Beyond program should contact us for additional information. Dr. Proctor also stated, “This program has made an impact on the participants, the families, the facilitators and on Pace staff. We are excited and happy to be able to fund this project again.”
Greg Parsley, Superintendent of Vincennes Community Schools has given the program his support, stating that it has the potential to be “life changing” for the boys. Knox County elementary school social workers provide nominations to the program and applications will be available through their office, as well as from the Pace office, beginning November 1. Pace plans to accept 20 boys into next year’s program. Recommendations will be reviewed, and parents of accepted boys will receive notification early in 2018.
