Pace’s Health Connection Observes National Women’s Health Week May 8-14th
“It’s Your Time” is the theme for 2011 National Women’s Health Week. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health coordinates this special week of May 8-14th to encourage women to make their health a top priority. Pace’s Health Connection observes National Women's Health Week and encourages women to take steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases. Those steps include:
- Getting at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous physical activity, or a combination of both each week.
- Eating a nutritious, well-balanced diet.
- Receiving regular checkups and preventive screenings.
- Avoiding risky behaviors such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt.
- Paying attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
Pam Jackson RN, Health Educator for Health Connection states, “Women need to empower themselves to take control of their health. Education is an integral factor to assist women in achieving this empowerment. Because women are often the “caregivers,” their own health is often forgotten.”
Health Connection encourages awareness of issues related to women’s health and the importance of prevention and early detection. For more information or to schedule an appointment call:
