Pace Weatherized 505 Homes with ARRA Funding

Pace marks a milestone this month officially weatherizing 505 homes with ARRA funding.  The milestone was achieved at a Bicknell home.  Improvements at this Knox County home included a vapor barrier, duct sealing, air sealing, and insulation. Prior to the ARRA “Stimulus” funding, Pace weatherized approximately 50 homes per year.

The weatherization program proves how government funding can directly impact people’s lives in a positive way.  Hundreds of local residents are living in more energy efficient homes and paying lower utility bills.

The benefit isn’t just for the residents that received the weatherization.  Reducing energy consumption is good for consumers, energy companies, and the environment. Supply and demand causes energy costs to fluctuate.  The more energy that is consumed, the less energy is available; therefore the more it is going to cost.  Improving efficiency helps reduce the cost of energy for all.  Bertha Proctor, Pace CEO stated that “another benefit of the stimulus funding was the approximately $1.5 million that were spent with local contractors and vendors to complete this project.”

Pace provides energy efficiency improvements through weatherization, with an average cost per home of $5,000. The program also addresses health and safety issues, decreasing risks like carbon monoxide poisoning and mold. Weatherization meets the mission of Pace by working to improve the community and help individuals become self-sufficient.
