PACE Encourages Men to Be Proactive with Their Health

Health Connection of Pace Community Action Agency, Inc. encourages men to take proactive steps toward better health.National Men’s Health Week, June 13th through June 19th, is designed to increase awareness of men's health problems, encourage early detection and treatment of diseases that may be preventable, and to celebrate the contribution men make to work, family, and the community. The focus is preventative health and healthy behaviors that men can adopt in relation to physical, mental, and sexual health and function.

Heart disease, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and colon cancer are the greatest health risks men face today. Many of these health risks can be prevented and treated if they are diagnosed early. Men are encouraged to take better care of their physical, mental, and emotional health. Men should be encouraged to talk to their health care providers about potential risks and to learn about the importance of routine medical care as well as screening tests.

Encouraging men to use the following tips can lead to a healthier life including:

  • Get routine examinations and tests to evaluate your health.
  • Be smoke-free. If you smoke, quit now. Help-lines, counseling, medications, and other forms of support are available to help you.
  • Be active. Get thirty minutes of moderate physical activity 5-7 days a week.
  • Eat healthy by increasing the number of fruits and vegetables you eat, control portions, decreasing intake of saturated fat, salt, and empty calories.
  • Take steps to protect yourself against injuries and harmful exposures at work, home, and play.

Health Connection promotes awareness of issues related to men’s health including the importance of prevention and early detection. For more information or to schedule an appointment call (812) 882-6069.
