Pace Community Action Agency “Get Fit”
On October 11, 2011 Michelle Obama continued her "Get Fit!" campaign with a major goal: a world record for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period. In efforts to decrease childhood obesity, Michelle Obama is trying to break a jumping jacks record.
The First Lady did one minute of jumping jacks with hundreds of students who are only a fraction of what's needed to break the record. Pace Vincennes Head Start Classrooms showed their support of this campaign by taking the children to the gymnasium for some fun with jumping jacks. The teachers instructed the children on how to do a jumping jack one step at a time. They then put together all the steps and did as many jumping jacks as they could in a minute’s time. The current record is 20,425 people jumping. By participating in this event our children added to Obama’s attempts to break the current record.
Kerry Kroeger, Site Manger stated that “our students enjoyed trying to break the record”. The children eagerly expressed themselves during the event. One child stated “Whew I’m exhausted,” while another added, “This is hard!” Heather Bloebaum, Pace Teacher, added her personal favorite was one little boy saying, “I need a break!”
Mrs. Obama said, “The whole country, the world, is going to see just how much fun we can have— not just breaking a world record but also doing some exercise."
PACE works to promote healthy bodies and minds and this “Get Fit” campaign allowed the children to relate their hard work to the First Lady’s initiative. Together we can change the future.
