Pace Community Action Agency Announces Judith K. Bobe Scholarship Recipients
Pace Community Action Agency is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 Judith K. Bobe Scholarship. Rachel Nelson from Sullivan High School and Courtney Holloway from North Knox High School will both receive $500 scholarships to use for their college expenses.
The Judith K. Bobe Scholarship is named in honor of Pace Community Action Agency`s former Head Start Director who worked within the program over 40 years. The scholarship is open to former Head Start Program students within the Indiana Counties of Daviess, Greene, Knox or Sullivan. Applicants were required to submit a typed essay about the impact of Head Start on the student`s academic performance.
Rachel Nelson plans to enroll in the Nursing program at Indiana State University, and Courtney Holloway plans to attend Vincennes University to prepare for a career in Physical Therapy.
“Providing this scholarship is a perfect fit with Pace`s benchmark slogan, ‘we educate, empower & improve,’” said Bertha Proctor, PACE CEO. “Education is an important component of each of our programs and is essential to meeting our mission, of providing support services that improve the community and encourage self-reliance. Head Start not only prepares children for kindergarten, we are preparing students for college.”
These scholarships were co-funded again this year by the Indiana Community Action Association (INCAA) in memory of Joan E. Cline. Cline was a 33-year Executive Director of an Indiana Community Action Agency that dedicated her life to helping families and individuals become self-sufficient. She also believed that assistance through higher education was necessary.
Pace annually provides at least two scholarships. Former Head Start students from Daviess, Greene, Knox and Sullivan Counties are encouraged to apply for next year`s scholarship program.
