Linton Head Start to Collaborate with Linton Stockton High School

In an effort to provide future Early Childhood educators with hands-on learning opportunities, the Linton Head Start is collaborating with the Linton Stockton High School Early Childhood class.  Debbie Flynn, Head Start Teacher, holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and is eager to share her expertise with others interested in this area of study.  “By giving the students an overview of Head Start and Early Childhood, I hope to see more students go into this field of study,” said Flynn.

Once a week the Head Start children will visit the high school’s Early Childhood class.  The high school students will have the opportunity to work with the children on an individualized basis.  They will learn how to assess each child so they can identify where the child is developmentally.  The students will then learn firsthand how to choose and present developmentally appropriate activities for the children.

Portia Hockman, Head Start Site Manager, says she can see the benefits of this partnership being far-reaching.  “Collaboration is at the heart of Head Start’s mission.  Not only will this collaboration benefit the Head Start children, but it will influence future educators and ultimately improve the community.”
