PACE WIC Manager Earns Credential
Pace Community Action Agency’s Knox / Daviess WIC Program, congratulate Kathy Nippert, RD, CD, WIC Manager, for successfully passing the IBLCE (International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners) exam on July 26, 2010. The exam is conducted world-wide the last Monday of each July with the results and certificates available in late-October. The successful completion of the exam awards the candidate the credentials of IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant).
Worldwide, over 22,000 IBCLC’s, doctors, nurses, dietitians, doulas, midwives, peer counselors, etc., improve the health and well-being of mothers and children, using the most current and scientifically based breastfeeding information. This credential’s competence is maintained by completing 75 hours of continuing breastfeeding education every five years and re-sitting for the exam every ten years. IBLCE is the global authority that determines the competence of practitioners in lactation and breastfeeding care. During its 25 year history the IBLCE has administered the exam to over 33,000 individuals and in 19 languages.
Kathy Nippert, Pace WIC Manager, states that with the successful achievement of the IBCLC credential, she joins Rebecca Moeller, Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, as the second Knox/Daviess WIC breastfeeding support staff member to earn this international credential. Indiana WIC is encouraging and supporting WIC Staff and Breastfeeding Peer Counselors to become IBCLC’s, by providing frequent updates and scientifically based breastfeeding education opportunities. With the goal to have IBCLC’s available in each county in Indiana and helping mothers initiate and continue breastfeeding for as long as possible. Indiana WIC continues to strive to be the breastfeeding expert for the optimal health of our children.
