Head Start Legacy Library
1/24/2012
PACE Head Start initiated a “Legacy Library” solely developed by donations from Head Start families, friends, and Community members. We recognize the fast paced world we all live it and want to make reading to children an easy and enjoyable experience.
A goal was initially set to collect 100 children’s books to form a first ever “Legacy Library” for our Head Start program by November 30, 2011. Two weeks into the collection we surpassed our goal and eagerly decided to aim higher and attempt to double the goal. On December 1stwe opened the Library with approximately 225 children’s books! This library allows parents to check out books while dropping and picking up their child from school each day.
Each donated book received a genuine label indicating the name of the Legacy book donor. Prior to being added to the library, each book was read to the children in the classrooms located at 525 North 4thStreet. The children quickly began asking to check out a book before leaving the school for the day. “It is a wonderful site to see and hear the joys that the library has brought to our center,” explained Kerry Kroeger, Site Manager. “We welcome all parents to continue to use the library and again thank all of those who contributed to the development of this library. New and used books or donations will continue to be accepted throughout the school year.
