Pace Head Start Promotes Staff Education

Pace Community Action Agency is dedicated to improving the community through a variety of avenues. In addition to providing pre-school services that promote positive development of low-income children, Pace is dedicated to improving the education of their Head Start staff. Pace has utilized ARRA funds, Head Start training funds, and a partnership with the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship program for child care providers in Indiana, to provide support for individuals in increase their education.

In the last year, 6 staff received post-secondary degrees, and currently 17 employees are working on post-secondary education. Of the current staff, 21 have obtained a higher educational degree since being employed. Tai Blythe, Assistant Director stated that, “Many staff has started as volunteers, and then moved to Substitutes, Teacher Assistants and later Teachers.” Having quality staff is a cornerstone for a successful program. Pace already meets the 2013 Head Start Act requirement that at least 50% of the Teachers hold a Bachelor's Degree. In addition to formal education, all staff receives multiple training opportunities throughout the year.

Opportunities exist to volunteer with the program by contacting the local Head Start Center. Pace Community Action is a private not-for-profit corporation with a mission to provide support services that improve the community and encourage self-reliance.
