Summer Youth Initiative

In our efforts to continually improve the communities where we live, Pace Community Action Agency is implementing a Youth Employment initiative for the summer of 2010. The program will offer our youth a range of work experiences and learning activities to help them gain skills, choose careers, and to encourage them to pursue advanced studies. Utilizing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding, we plan to employ approximately 30 high school aged youth in Daviess and Knox Counties. The program will operate for the 10 week period of June 1 through August 6th. Along with the application, students should include a cover letter explaining their area of interest and indicating their availability for full-time (40 hours/wk) or part-time positions.

Internship Program

The Internship Program will provide summer work experience providing employment opportunities for post-secondary students that provides them with the opportunity to acquire skills, gain valuable work experience, and help finance their return to school. Opportunities will be offered within our facilities and will run for a 13 week period beginning May 10th and completing on August 6th. Opportunities are available for students in studies such as: Business/Management/Supervision, Marketing, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, and Spanish. Applications will be reveiwed immediately and canidates will be selected as soon as possible.

Internship Opportunities

Computer Technician Intern

    The technician will be working with our Information Systems Team in the ongoing troubleshooting and maintenance of the computer network environment. The environment includes Microsoft Windows Servers and Clients, Cisco Switches, Phones, and Firewall.

Summer Coordinator

    The Coordinators will be responsible for planning, day-to-day oversight, and management of assigned programs. Position will supervise all youth and intern positions.

Family Specialist Intern

    The Specialist provides case management services to families, designs parent involvement activities, assists with recruitment, and conducts enrollment activities within the Head Start Program. In addition, the Specialist may perform intake procedures and education services within the Client Services offices.

Marketing Intern

    This position will create a marketing plan to tell the story of Community Action. In addition, the intern will create press releases, presentations, and other media strategies.

Early Childhood Intern

    The Early Childhood Interns will be working with children in our Early Head Start Program serving children 0 – 3 years. The Interns will work with existing staff in a Center and Childcare Home environment.

Summer Counselors

    Summer Counselors will be working with a Preschool Summer Program that provides educational services in a bi-lingual environment. The sessions will be held at our Head Start facility in Washington. Applicants should be fluent in Spanish.

Summer Youth Initiative Opportunities

Business Assistant

    Business Assistants will be placed with local small businesses performing a variety of duties as assigned by the hosting company. Opportunities will be available in food service, technology, janitorial, sales, and landscape.

Center Assistant

    Center Assistant will provide a variety of duties within our Head Start Program. Tasks include food preparation, inventory, cleaning, and classroom duties.

Clerk

    Opportunities to apply office skills including computer knowledge will be available in areas of Human Resource, Accounting, Executive Office, and our Weatherization Program.
